Chelsea Flower Show
London UK (2017)
Invited by Nigel Dunnett to create a large scale mural for his flagship garden for the RHS. We worked together with Arup to develop the concept which included a green wall and large scale mural stretching the length of the garden.
The concept for the 2017 RHS Chelsea Flower Show ‘Greening Grey Britain’ garden was to focus on the role, value and crucial importance of gardens in very urban contexts e.g high-rise and apartment developments and aimed to include inspirational ideas for where space is at a premium, including balconies and other spaces on the buildings themselves, as well as very small-scale private gardens at ground level.
At the heart of the garden was a shared space that encourages social interactions and a real sense of community. The garden was full of innovative take-home ideas that are directly relevant to home gardeners and to community groups, but also, crucially, to urban residential and commercial developers, from urban social housing providers right through to exclusive private high-density developments. At the same time the garden conveyed serious messages about the urgent need to put landscape, horticulture and nature at the very centre of new urban development.
